My son has been detained in prison for almost a week and nz police are trying to charge him with kidnapping and domestic

Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: My son has been detained in prison for almost a week and nz police are trying to charge him with kidnapping and domestic assault when the charges against him have been fabricated by the arresting officers.
JA: Does your son have any upcoming court dates on the charges?
Customer: This coming Tuesday or Thursday and judge may set bail conditions which I find there shouldn't be any considering, he didn't commit any serious offence
JA: Has he talked to a New Zealand lawyer about this yet?
Customer: Yes he has and the lawyer was trying to gather enough information so that itcould put before the judge, because he believes my son shouldn't be in there
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: The only reason why the police were called was that he had a mental breakdown and the mental health they suggested that the police be called so that he could be assessed. My understanding was his partner present at the time was saying he was sitting on the side of the road talking to himself. The police charged him with assault on his partner which never eventuated, as for the kidnapping charges, was seemingly plucked out of thin air.

Bail can be tricky but if this is a mental health issue then he should be getting medical treatment and not held in custody. His lawyer is likely to be working on this to get bail but it’s critical to have a good address where he can be remanded to and family support
