Can I adopt my step son? He is 20 years old and we want him to have legal entitlement to use our family name and all

Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: Can I adopt my step son? He is 20 years old and we want him to have legal entitlement to use our family name and all that implies!
JA: Do both biological parents consent to the adoption?
Customer: One biological parent has no legal entitlement to his biologoical son as part of a divorce settlement in Germany over 20 years ago. The mother lives in NZ and is my ex wife, she has no disagreement!
JA: Is there a custody agreement or order in place?
Customer: Yes, as I said it part of divorce proceedings years ago. My son is a NZ citizen now of legal age and wishes to be adopted.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: he's an adult at 20. We've always talked about this, but I wanted him to be older so he knew his own mind. He has another 13 brother, my biological so, and it's important to him as well.
