Customer: I partly brought abpuppy
JA: What state are you in? And is a local attorney or other consumer protection advocate helping with this?
Customer: I brought a puppy online it was $1500 but I was nervous and said I will pay half $750 and then $750 after I received the puppy. The day the puppy was meant to arrive I received an email from the courier company that I needed to pay $3900 for the puppy to have a covid vaccination which I thought was extreme I didn't have the money so they have kept the puppy and are threatening me with pet abandonment. The person I brought the puppy off is refusing to refund my money. What can I do?
JA: Have you contacted the seller or manufacturer?
Customer: Yes I have tried ringing the courier company but a I'm suspicious because they have no answering machine and they only answer the phone late at night. never during the day. Also the person I was suppose to buy the puppy off is telling me to pay the courier even though it was he who organised the delivery
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: No I think that's the guts of it

Unfortunately there are scammers selling puppies where they add fees for extras after you have started the purchase. There is no need for the puppy to get a Covid vaccination so this appears unusual and something a scammer would ask for to try to make you pay more money. You need to contact the seller and demand your money back, and tell them the attempt to make you pay the courier fees is a misrepresentation and breach of contract. You could try to recover the money in the Disputes Tribunal but it is possible the scammer is not in New Zealand

Customer
Hi thank you Chris. I thought as much. What is the likelihood of me getting my money back if I go through the disputes tribunal and also the seller went through buy and sell nz
Customer
Is there any way buy and sell would be able to help me?

If the seller is in New Zealand you should get your money back. The selling platform may be able to help-is that a Facebook or Instagram site?
