Customer: after my arrival to Auckland NZ. .in 1995 and lived in NZ until 2006. ..with some temporary residence absences during my overseas trip back home.to Izmir Turkey. ..I have lived ~4- 5 x years over 50 in NZ ...and ..as far as I am informed..I "may or may not" qualify for an "old age"pension now that I am 70 ?????????..and I would like to return to NZ for Family reunion. ..as I do NOT have my own Family overseas any longer. .. can you assess this situation for me.? JA: Have you talked to a lawyer about this? Customer: Not yet but I would like to..I do have evidence from the NZ government for my "movements check" report JA: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you? Customer: I also have been a Master and a PhD student at NZ universities. .Auckland and Univ of Canterbury...I have acquired a Master of Studies degree in Engineering from Auckland but I could not accomplish my PhD research thesis for degree at Canterbury Univ unfortunately.for various important reasons. .I had also used student loan for my tuitions duting studies and which remains unpaid...provided I could find an engineering job I would surely pay it back. ..

Hi-I did not explain the issue as to why you do not yet qualify (unless you have more than 5 years here after you turned 50) but this is why-
You may qualify for NZ Super if you:

  • are 65 or over
  • either:
    • are a New Zealand citizen
    • are a permanent resident, or
    • hold a residence class visa
  • are ordinarily resident in New Zealand,when you apply
  • have lived in New Zealand for at least 10 years since you turned 20
  • have lived in New Zealand, for at least 5 years since you turned 50.
