Customer: Hi there, so this issue is from 2-3 years ago, I believe I deserve some sort of justice, so my truck was stolen, I rang police everyday with info and asking for updates, all I got from police was an email saying case closed we don't know who stole it or where it is, weeks went by when I was sent a link on stuff saying a silver Hilux surf was flipped in a high speed chase with no photos or rego number on post, I then went to police station to ask for rego number, it turned out to be mine, what I didn't understand was why police said it was silver with no pics or rego when my truck is clearly GREEN, another week went by to finally track down what they had done with my truck, it was at parks towing, but the police had it in a secure unit, I went to parks towing with a police officer and even he couldn't get into the secure unit, the police then said we do not cover damages although they put spikes on the road, and was told I had to pay tow and storage bill and wait for guy to get sentenced, the guy had so many charges it took 18 months, then at court changes were dropped and was deemed a civil matter, how is someone stealing my $10000 truck civil? I have since tried lawyers only to be told I have to make a case in small claims court cause it's a civil matter, but I'm not aloud to serve him papers as he's committed an offence against me, so I had to get another 5k loan to fix my truck which has been a never ending problem, it has cause me so much stress and I've now been paying for something someone stole 1 month after I financed it can you please help in any way as my mental health has been hugely affected by this
Thank you, Navarro###-##-#### I don't think this is fair at all

There is no reason why you cannot sue this person for the damages and costs. But often the sort of people who steal things do not have any money. So even if you sue this person he may not be able to pay. This would mean it might not be worth going to the trouble

Yeah this is what I've been told, I don't see how it's even somewhat fair and the fact the police covered up and hid it pretty well even though it wasflipped the following day and I was ringing every day for weeks...

It isn’t fair and the police don’t always look after the victims. It’s clear they didn’t with you. You could have complained to the Independent Police Conduct Authority but you have really left it a bit late. If you think it would help you could bring the claim in the Tribunal to get the satisfaction of a judgment even if you don’t get any money from the criminal
