A landlord can require rent in advance but also a bond. But what are the amounts which they took from your advance rental, and why did they take these?

Customer
Hi ..chris, the major thing is she did not put any tenancy agreement. And the second thing she got the advance rent of 150 dollars and she said she will give me back . But i got 110$ and the remaining she took for power. In which that house doesn't have a wifi connection as well. Im not angry because of the amount she took. Im angry because she didn't inform me before taking that and she was behaving in a very rude way. When i asked her about this
Customer
Please take a look of these screenshots. Those are the messages she sent me.

Was this is a residential tenancy or was this a flat sharing situation?

Customer
She took the whole house for rent and she is not the landlord. She pays rent to the owner.

Have you moved out? Did you rent a room from her?

Customer

My suggestion is that you bring a claim against her in the disputes Tribunal where you can ask for a proper accounting and for your money back. You can make a claim online at this link

Customer
I just moved out. I got all this problems and what ever she pointed me out, everything happened after i moved out. And she is saying all this things to me after i asked her about the clarification for the amount she deducted

It must have been a difficult time for you. But the tribunal might be able to sort out your money. You don't need a lawyer to go to the tribunal and they often sought these matters out quickly

Customer
Im thinking to go to cops. Its not for the money. Its for the words she used against me. Im thinking to put a harrassment case against her. She involved my personal stuffs and degraded my behaviour and projected my dressing sense in a different way. I need justice in that. I just wanted to know whether i get affected in any while charging her.
Customer
Because she didnot put any tenancy agreement with me and i also didn't ask for that. Will that be a problem for me.
Customer
Or if anything in that images i have sent will affect me by any way?

The police will not help you with a harassment case. They only deal with matters where there has been an assault or where money has been stolen from you. In this case they will tell you to take this matter to the disputes Tribunal. This is not a residential tenancy, but a house sharing situation. So the verbal contract can be used in the tribunal

Customer
What is this tribunal? What should i do in this?
Customer
Is that for non resident as well?
Customer
Im new to new Zealand.

Customer
Are you sure police will not help me with this?
img

Chris The Lawyer, Expert

Yes

Customer
Isnt that a verbal abuse. What she spoke to me?
img

Chris The Lawyer, Expert

In New Zealand the police don't get involved in personal disputes like this because they say it is a civil dispute and not a criminal matter

Customer
how long days will it take for the hearing?
Customer
Can you please help me out with this. Im getting mentally depressed
Customer
what they will do for the verbal abuse?.

Chris The Lawyer, Expert

It normally takes a month or 2 to get a hearingin the tribunal. There isn't much which you can do about the verbal abuse, because what was said is not criminal, even though it is upsetting for you.
