Under the Fair Debt Collections Protection Act (FDCPA) Debt collectors are required to identify themselves as such. But you have no obligation to verify your identity, and you also have the right to ask them to stop calling you through the FDCPA. You also have the right to have the debt verified. That is that you can ask for an explanation of the debt and how it was calculated. You have the right to negotiate the debt, or to appoint legal counsel, or to have the matter litigated.
Of course, you do have other rights under the fair debt collection practices Act. (FDCPA). You can demand that they no longer call you - in which case their recourse would be to start a lawsuit.
You can require the company to substantiate the debt - basically, make them provide proof the debt is owed.
You have the right to be represented by counsel.
You have the right to a trial.
If the company violates these rights you can make a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission who will undertake an investigation, they have the power to fine violators of the FDCPA.
You may also have grounds to file a private lawsuit and collect damages for repeat violations.
Finally, if you simply do not have the means to pay your debts and your liabilities exceed your assets you may want to consider bankruptcy.
