I haven't heard back from you but wanted to ensure that you received some information. If the marriage lasts for over ten years and there's ten years of overlapping military service, a spouse can obtain retirement benefits directly from dfas. The steps to request direct payment from dfas can be located at https://www.dfas.mil/garnishment/usfspa/apply/.

Does this make sense?

Right now my concern is my paying for the attorney. Our money is tied together. I haven't had to work in 35 years. Now because of health reasons I'm unable to work. I would a like a phone call.
Customer
We married in 1988. He joined the military in 1986. He retired in 2006. Still worked as a civilian for the military.

I apologize for the delay. If you'd like a phone call, there should be a pop up that you can accept. Once that's accepted and funded, the site will allow a call to go through.

From what you stated, I'm not sure if you've hired an attorney or not. Can you please verify if you've hired an attorney?

Customer
I'm going a different route. I have stated. You misunderstood.

Ok, I apologize. If a request for temporary orders hasn’t been made yet, it not, a request might be made. If temporary orders are granted, they can order the other party to pay spousal support, either for the duration of the divorce, for a period of time after the divorce, or on a permanent basis.
