Sorry to hear you're having trouble. So when did you receive an honorable discharge? And you are trying to get medical care now, is that right?

Nice to meet you too! There are two main types: military medical retirement and VA disability.

I haven't heard of someone getting medical retirement retroactively, this long after your discharged. I believe you will need to try to apply for disability instead.

Customer
Hi, yes , I'm getting disability
and I was told that because I was released due to asthma, they should've medical retirement? Hmm

I would take a close look at this guide first: https://militarybenefits.info/medical-disability-retirement/

From there, I would speak to the VA and any contacts you still have with the military to see if you can apply for something retroactively.

Are there any legal follow-up questions related to this that I can help you with?

Customer
I will be processing another claim for my disability, and since they've been treating me for sleep Alpena but have denied me the rating, would you recommend a nexus letter ?

AttyChelsea, Expert

You would have to get such documentation from a medical personnel.

A nexus letter explains the extent to which a veteran's medical condition is connected to their military service. It is written by a qualified health care provider and is reviewed in conjunction with other medical documentation to determine the benefits for which you are eligible.
