Thank you so much for using JustAnswer. I’m Sean and I will be assisting you as an expert today. I’m an attorney with more than 20 years of experience. It’s my goal to provide a solid overview of your situation. If I am able, I will also provide you with some resources. Do note that I may have some initial questions to help me better understand your situation. As well, I want to make sure that your questions are all fully and completely answered, so if you have other questions that come up while we are talking, please let me know so I can address those as well.

I am sorry to hear that this is occurring.

Have you been in touch with any law enforcement? And I gather this was a situation where the "LTCOL" and the person encountered each other online and the alleged service member needs money to address either travel or a situation in his alleged service?

Completely a scam.

Let me ask this, where are you located? Or, in the alternative, did the alleged service member say which base in the US he was attached to?

Very helpful.

These scams are becoming an ever more common event which is unfortunate that individuals attempt to exploit the service and prey on those who support our troops.

These are federal crimes and the acts constitute multiple different felonies.

I would suggest contacting the US Army Criminal Investigation Division in Missouri

Fort Leonard Wood CID Office
Building 650,*****br/>Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473
Phone:(###) ###-####/p>

Also, the FBI Field Office in St. Louis should be notified.

***** St. Louis, MO 63103

(###) ###-####/p>

As the calls are being prepared to be made, it would be beneficial to put together a timeline with dates and contacts. If any transcripts of the chats have been maintained, those should be organized. Any personal details, contact information, etc. - even photos that were provided should be assembled.

Now, full disclosure, often these folks who are running the scams are not even in the US and that will make enforcement difficult, but the matter should be reported.

And, most importantly, expect this individual, when it becomes apparent that no money will be forthcoming, may start to make threats or even become aggressive in an effort to intimidate the targeted person.

Simply do not engage, but keep a log of all contact.

If you are referring to a phone call offer, as the offer notes, that does not come from me, but from the system. I can answer anything here and no need to reference the call if you have no interest in it.
