Customer: Second Opinion] My son is a Canadian citizen living and working in Iraq for the past year and a half. In December 2020, he married a woman with Ehtiopian passport. They want to visit canada and introduce her to the family at Xmas. My question is: does she need a "tourist" visa or a "visiting family" visa. They do not intend to stay more than a month. Thanks for any advice. JA: What steps has your son taken? Have they filed any paperwork with the government? Customer: What kind of paperwork? Do you mean register their marriage? JA: The Immigration Lawyer will be able to walk you through that. Have they talked to a lawyer about the visa? Customer: No. Not easy while in Iraq. They've ask me to do some research for them. JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you. Customer: Nothing I can think of at the moment.

Good morning.

This can turn into a very exciting family situation for you all!

This is clearly an immigration law case which requires specific steps.  Since your son is abroad he should contact the Canadian High Commission or equivalent office.  The immigration officer can guide him.  It can be a long process, but it is possible to get a visa to visit Canada.

I hope this is helpful.  Good luck!

Customer
Thank you. Do you have an opinion on whether she will require a "tourist" visa or a "visit family" visa?

Unfortunately I am not certain exactly which one she would need. But the High Commission will know exactly.

Customer
Ok. Thanks, George.
