Customer: Hi, I'm renewing my B1/B2 visa, and would like to know what would be a good US contact to put in the DS-160 application to make sure that my B1/B2 visa will be approved? I'm entitled to the interview waiver when applying for visa renewal on this instance.
JA: What steps have you taken? Have you filed any paperwork with the U.S. government?
Customer: I have almost finished filling out the DS-160 form online, but have left the US contact blank. I'm planning to open a franchise business when I go back to the US next month after I got my visa renewed.
JA: Do you have an ideal timeline for obtaining the B-1 visa?
Customer: In a month's time. I will need to send my passport to the US Embassy in our country for the visa renewal. I don't need to schedule a personal interview anymore.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: That's all for now. I don't have any issue with renewing my B1/B2 visa in the past, but they all required personal interview at that time, so I bring supporting documents of our company, and invitation letters from conference organizers (that was the purpose of my trips before).

Hello and welcome to Just Answer. I am an immigration attorney with over 30 years experience and while this does not create an attorney/client relationship, and any responses/answers given cannot be construed as legal advice, I note the following:

If in the past, your prior business reasons for visiting the US were accepted, then it would be good to try to be consistent by putting a business contact. However, you should not be "jumping the gun" and counting on a B-1 visa to provide employment authorization.

Kind regards,

CustomerEsq.

Customer
No, I just need my B1/B2 visa be renewed. Would it matter if my current purpose is not related to our business anymore? Also, instead of putting in that my employer will sponsor this trip, I will be responsible for the trip expenses? Btw, I'm the major shareholder of my current company abroad, the same with the previous company stated in my previous visa application. It's just that I thought since the trip purpose is not related to my current business, I thought I shouldn't state that my company is sponsoring this upcoming trip anymore. Or is it ok to have my company sponsor the trip again, even if it's unrelated business?

It's vital to be truthful.

If the proposed trip is for business purposes, put a US business contact, if applicable.

If the proposed trip is for a personal reason, like vacation, apply for the combination B-1/B-2 and then put a personal contact.

If none exists, put "not applicable."

Customer
Noted, thanks. But is it better to maintain that my company will sponsor this trip, or I put in that I will be shouldering the trip expenses personally this time, since it's unrelated business?

Just be truthful.

Attach an explanation page, if possible.

You have a good track record.

That's worth something.

Allow me to clarify how Just Answer works, since we're both bound by its terms.

Please understand that Just Answer is for general information and education purposes; not custom case analysis or preparation. For example, “Experts in the Legal category will provide only general information about the law and will not provide legal advice nor propose a specific course of action for a Customer.”

However, if you select a premium service, such as a phone call, we can communicate in greater depth on the Just Answer platform. Our discussion may be sufficient for your needs.

Furthermore, at that point, we will be free to exchange full contact information, including names and numbers, and can speak thereafter via my law office, if needed or desired. (Just Answer would no longer be involved and I am even free to become your actual attorney.)
