Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: I have my conditional green card through my spouse who is a citizen. It expires on January 27, 2022. We are both currently in the US. I have to apply to remove the conditions and get the permanent card for 10 years. I will be applying without an attorney.. I will be out of the state for a couple of months after I send the application. I don't want to miss the biometrics appointment or any notice that comes up. Can I forward the uscis mail or can I hire an attorney just so I can receive the notifications.
JA: What steps have you taken? Have you filed any paperwork with the U.S. government?
Customer: No
JA: Thanks for all these details so far. Have you discussed the green card with an in-person lawyer yet?
Customer: No
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: Or can I hire an attorney after I have the sent the USCIS form?

Hello! My name is***** and I am a licensed attorney with more than 19 years of experience. I am here to assist you with your questions. If I do not respond quickly, I promise I will reply as soon as I can. It may take a little time to research and write your answer, I could be helping other customers, or I could be attending to personal clients as I have my law practice.

Please give me a few minutes to review your question. I will be right with you with an answer. Sorry for any delay. I could be helping other customers or perhaps attending to personal clients as I have my law practice. Also, I read and type fast, but not that fast! Thank you for your patience.

Sorry for the delay. Luckily, you could do either, or just have someone checking your mail on a regular basis where you forward it to. It may take more than a few months for the biometrics on an I-751. What else may I answer for you?

Customer
I read that USPS won't forward government mail. I don't have no one to check my mail and I just want to be sure I won't miss it. Last time I got my green card the appointment came in a month and by the third month I already had the green card on my hands.

You don't have a neighbor you trust or a family member you trust that can pick up the mail for you?

What address could you use? And when does your 2 year green card expire? And what date will you come back to the U.S.?

Are you traveling with your spouse?

Customer
We are both traveling withing the US. We will be at that temporary address due to personal emergency. It could be 2 to 4 months. The green card expires on January 27, 2022. 3 months from now.

And what date will you be back at a regular address living with your spouse?

Customer
We don't have a specific date as I said it could be from a couple up to 4 months due to reasons out of our hands.

Well, I would wait to file until January 20th or so, and then hopefully by a month or two you will be able to have a stable location, but perhaps until then you can use a PO Box or something like that. Or in the end, maybe you will need to file late and explain what your personal emergency was that you could not be stable at one address until after the green card expired.

What else would you like to know?

Customer
I can receive mail from them through a P.O. box?

It is not idea. You may want to hire an attorney to receive the mail then. What other U.S. Immigration Law questions do you have for me?

Customer
That's it. Thank you.

You are very welcome. Thank you for being a valued customer. My goal is to provide you with excellent service – but that does NOT mean we finished if you need to continue. If you feel you have received anything less than quality service or have additional questions, please reply. I am happy to address 1 or 2 follow-up questions for you. There is no additional charge for that. For any different cases in the future, please post a NEW session and remember to use FOR GUILLERMO in the message box so that no one else grabs the question. That way, I can become your exclusive immigration consultant. Also, I am not currently taking active cases for representation, but I am accepting certain cases for review. If that interests you, please let me know and we can upgrade to a quick phone call for just a few dollars to discuss pricing.

Customer
Will do thanks
