Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: The man my mother married adopted me when I was about 7 years old. Can I obtain the documents?
JA: What state are you in? Adoption law varies by location.
Customer: Pennsylvania. It would have been the Dauphin County Courthouse in Harrisburg, PA
JA: Do the biological parents consent to the adoption?
Customer: My biological mother; my biological father and adoptive father are all deceased.
JA: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: Well, I understand that there was a $6,000.00 on my behalf and I would like to know if there is a record of that.

Hi - my name is ***** ***** I'll be glad to assist.

Yes, you should be able to petition the court that handled the adoption and unseal the records. Generally, only the adopted person or the parents (birth or adopted) can unseal these records.

If you know the court that handled the proceedings, and the general time frame, a local lawyer should be able to help you get this done.

O.K. my next door neighbor is a lawyer and he said he would be glad to help. I will give him that information. Do you know, though, if the record of the $6,000.00 settlement on me will also be available?
Customer
no I do not wish to talk on the phone. I can see better than I can hear. So if you cannot assist me further, I will thank you and leave.

I don't know whether the amounts would be in there or not.....it just depends on whether the court record contains that information.

Customer
O.K. I do want to thank you and since I have no further questions, I believe that I can petition the Court House, or whatever, with my neighbors' assistance and perhaps have information for my children. Thru DNA my son and I have both been contacted by descendents of my biological father. So I would like to get the record for them. Thank you again.
