My wife and myself work at a food processing plant in Oregon. My wife unfortunately had to file a harassment complaint

Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: My wife and myself work at a food processing plant in Oregon. My wife unfortunately had to file a sexual harassment complaint against another employee. The day she filed the report with hr she was sent home and then her hours were consequently cut from 4 twelve hour days a week to 1 day a week. We have filed a complaint with oregon department of labor. What else can we do. We are struggling to pay bills with the reduced hours.
JA: When did this begin? Has your wife documented or reported any sexual harassment?
Customer: Originally she filed the sexual harassment with management in 2019 and nothing ever happened. Then she again questioned it 2 weeks ago and had to redo all statements for Hr. That's when her hours were cut
JA: Has she talked to an Oregon lawyer about sexual harassment?
Customer: No
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: I don't think so

When did this situation first begin?

What result are you seeking?
Customer
The original harassment complaint was given to management in 2019 and nothing happened. She was just told it is being handled. Then 2 weeks ago she asked hr about it. They knew nothing and she had to redo all. That day her hours were cut from 4 12 hr shifts a week to 1. We have filled a complaint with burrow of labor. But we are struggling to pay bills with the reduced hours and would like them back

Got it. Thank you. Do you have witnesses with personal knowledge who can back you up?Is there anything else that you would like me to consider before I provide an answer to your question?
Customer
there are witnesses to both the sexual harassment and the cut hours.

Anything else you want me to keep in mind as I complete your answer?
Customer
I also work for the same company and if my hours get cut as well, we will not be able to pay our bills
Customer
I asked the vp of the company why her hours were cut after filing a complaint and was told to stay out of it. She needs to ask for herself.but she is afraid of more retaliation if she does

Your answer is ready and you can read it below! After you review it please let me know if the answer is clear and if you have any follow up questions for me. I will be happy to answer them! The facts support a claim for retaliation and discrimination. It helps to prepare your case with a good narrative or story of what happened. This helps focus the presentation of the facts and arguments. It is often useful to have a chronological timeline of events with facts and back up evidence (e.g. e-mails, texts, photos, witnesses)I would have legal counsel reach out to company to negotiate a settlement. In your situation, I think that you would benefit from local representation. You can seek an attorney on commission, flat fee or pro bono basis. You can search by location and practice area through the American Bar association, state bar associations, as well as Justia.I would recommend focusing on a solo practitioner who commit time, experience and passion to advancing your interests.Another option to consider is mediation. It’s a nice alternative and can help resolve disputes faster than court but it requires everyone to agree to mediate. Jams and AAA offer that option!
