Customer: The university stated that I needed 6 classes in order to complete my undergraduate degree but now that I have completed the 6 classes the university states that they made a mistake and actually I have to complete an additional 2 classes now in order to complete my degree so the question is because I planned on using my degree for employment and now I can't do I have a case for future loss of income and negligence that has cause me mental distress and anguish?
JA: I just need to ask a few clarifying questions so that the Lawyer doesn't miss anything. To start, what state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: Texas
JA: Are there any relevant dates or timelines to consider with this?
Customer: I started the program in June 2022 with a degree completion date of NOV 27 2022
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: no

I really don't think so. If this was a true mistake, that's a defense. You'd have to prove someone told you the wrong amount of credits on purpose to cause you harm, which is very difficult. Also, that would be very expensive for you.

Customer
This mistake has caused me harm but because it was not intentional it is okay?

Michael MIhalov, Expert

Not OK, just not legally actionable. I think you could make a fuss and at least get the credits for free, or some kind of compensation.

Customer
Would you consider monetary compensation reasonable? Other than credits for free?

Michael MIhalov, Expert

No. I doubt very much they will offer you money other than credits.
