Customer: Hi I don't know if I could really do anything but I'm hoping to see what my options are. I have been attending a school in North Carolina for the last 7 months I am supposed to graduate in March. They announced last week that the school will be closing down and being sold. I still have 3 months of school left and they are not planning on opening the doors in January. I have been going to school for massage therapy the only School that will accept all my credits is in Charlotte North Carolina about 5 hours away from me. The director of the school was hoping to be able to keep the school open until March so that we can all graduate. However that doesn't look like it's going to be an option. I'm just trying to see if there is anything that can be done legally to have the school offer a teach out method preferably. If not what can be done about all the time that was wasted. It took a lot of effort for me to be able to go to school these last 7 months I managed going to school full time working 35 hours a week all while having a 6-year-old at home and a house to manage. I don't know that anything can be done but I truly feel wronged. I feel that someone should be held legally accountable for wasting not only my time efforts and money but also my classmates.

Have you written a formal letter to the Universities board and Dean?

What should I say in the letter

I believe writing a formal letter detailing the hardships that you are going to face, and the fact that you are only 3 months away from graduating is your best option at this point. You can request that all of your credits get transferred to a university similar to yours, so you can graduate and obtain your degree. Putting all of this writing and putting them on notice of this egregious thing, and how it's affecting your life is very important.

Outline all the work you've done, the expenses you have paid out, and how close you are to graduating and the hardships you will face by not finishing. These are all exceptional circumstances and they should allow you to graduate or transfer your credits.

Did you have any further questions for me?

In the case that doesn't work what is the next step

If they don't acknowledge this, then unfortunately you will have to take legal action. Try to find an attorney that will work on contingency, meaning that you don't pay anything upfront, and the lawyer will only take their fee once they get you your settlement.
