You can find a highly-rated local lawyer on a lawyer review site like Avvo.com for your city. You can also use https://find.lawyer.com/justanswer.php?1 which will get you a free consultation as well as 25% off legal fees for being a JustAnswer member on Lawyers.com.

I further recommend justia.com for potentially finding a local attorney.

You can also use the local State Bar Association.

There are lots of options to find a good local lawyer.

Customer
i mean after i prove innocent with attorney versus if i prove innocent without attorney?
img

StephenH129, Expert

That doesn’t matter. You’d have to defeat the charges either way. I’d always recommend an attorney. If you’re going to sue the police or state you need representation.

Customer
but then it will matter for civil rights attorney how much money i spent, stress, etc?
img

StephenH129, Expert

It could come in to play. But I would be more focused on defeating the actual charges first. If you don’t beat the DUI there is no after suit. I’m sorry this is happening.

Customer
can i tell the judge to represent myself and then hire a lawyer later?
img

StephenH129, Expert

You can retain an attorney at any point in the process.
Customer
will i have more chances for civil rights suit if my attorney finds some violations of police protocol?
Customer
what will i have to do if i represnt myself and then want attorney: file some motion or tell the clerk?
img

StephenH129, Expert

that would help with a civil lawsuit. If you want an attorney you tell the court. You simply hire one and they make their appearance known. That could happen at any time.
Customer
but if i dont spend money on attorney now, then civil suit will be less likely without money expenses, but only emotinal distress and health problems?
img

StephenH129, Expert

Then hire an attorney now. You always have that right. Your bigger problem is getting out of the DUI not the civil suit after.

Customer
i know, but but can you answer my previous question?
img

StephenH129, Expert

I don’t understand it. Please rephrase.

img

StephenH129, Expert

You couldn’t claim attorneys fees if you didn’t actually spend them. That’s true.

img

StephenH129, Expert

The rest I need clarification on.

Customer
i mean does it matter for civil suit that i spent money on attorney after being wronfully arrested?
img

StephenH129, Expert

No. It would not impact the damages significantly.
Customer
but this attorney could prove lack of probable cause for arrest?
img

StephenH129, Expert

Yes, they could. It depends on the facts at hand. I would strongly recommend representation.

Customer
0 in breathalyzer and trooper didnt do field test. Is it lack of probable cause?
Customer
he just lied i drove erratically
img

StephenH129, Expert

It could be yes. Again, it depends on the facts and what you can prove.
Customer
ok, thanks
