Customer: I agreed to have a car dealership complete work on my car. They told me it would be up to 8 weeks because of parts. Now I find out that, after going into the 11th week, they received all the necessary parts weeks ago, but my car was put on the back burner because another car needed machine work, which had to put their work queue on hold essentially. If I ever get my car back, I will now have to pay higher prices for goods I would have been able to go buy weeks ago. What are my options to get compensation for the time I've been without my vehicle, including holding off on being able to buy groceries or run errands due to the ever-rising inflation prices in he economy?

Hello,

My apologies but you have no right to compensation because the dealership never, in writing, agreed to underwrite your expenses.  For the dealership to be liable for your additional expenses, the agreement in writing had to have a 'time is of the essence' clause with specific language stating that if the dealership is late, they agree to cover certain losses or expenses.  If such language is not in your agreement, then you cannot demand such damages from the dealership.  I am sorry about that.

Sincerely,

Isaaac, Esq.

what am I supposed to do, let the dealership keep my car until they decide to work on it?
Customer

Hello,

You can request that they begin work faster and if you wish, you can seek to take your vehicle out of the mechanic and give it to a different mechanic to work on.  You would need to cover the costs for any repairs done or any parts ordered on behalf of the vehicle but you would be able to take the parts with you as you purchased them.

Sincerely,

Isaac, Esq.

Customer
Wow that's not consumer protection. Alrighty, thanks!
