You didn't really hear from your friend. You are the target of the very popular Impostor grant Scam. That's when someone you actually know on real-time reaches out to you and says something to the extent of "Here's how I got my money. Go get yours." Most of the time the scammer uses Facebook's messenger, but the scam has spread to other social media sites as well.

And, of course, victims think that the money is real because one of their real friends or family members recommended it. However, if you contact your friend offline by some means you did not get from this scammer, you will find out that your friend doesn't know a thing about this money. It's just that her account was hacked and the hacker set up a clone profile and then reached out to all of her real friends and contacts to scam them out of thousands of their dollars.

The government is in the business of handing out random cash awards. Also, grants are desirable because they are 100% free. If you have to pay so much as a cent for them out-of-pocket, you're not dealing with the government. You're sending your money to a thief. If you contact these people, you'll be told to send money upfront to collect the grant and that, of course, is the scam. You already know that, which is why you're suspicious.

Block these scammers. Send no money, because that's what this is really all about -- getting your money. Report the scam to the FBI at https://www.ic3.gov

Contact your friend offline and tell him or her that his Facebook account has been hacked.

You're very welcome.

You can report it to the FBI at the link I gave you if you want to. If this was Facebook, you can report it to them as well. Or you can simply delete it.
