Customer: I was recently fired from a job in a Nunavut advanced mining project. The manner in which i was fired was unusual. I was a supervisor who wasn't liked by individuals on my crew. They deliberately acted unsafely during iceroad construction operations. Resulting in a heated argument, that was recorded and subsequently sent to management, resulting in my immediate termination.
JA: Just to confirm, were any reasons given as grounds for the termination?
Customer: No, other than the argument. I should state, there was a recent fatality at that worksite prior to my joining the project where an individual lost his life due to unsafe work practices.
JA: What kind of workplace is this (private sector, public sector, etc.)? How many employees?
Customer: Mine development, iceroad construction on the arctic ocean.
JA: Where are you located? Workplace termination laws vary by state.
Customer: As i stated, Nunavut Canada. You asked which state, are you located in Canada. If not my apologies, please disregard.
JA: The Employment Lawyer will be able to walk you through that. Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: There is an ongoing investigation in the unfortunate death of a person on January 17th 2022. Which is somewhat connected to this issue i have. Safety on site is lacking and i was hired as a supervisor with 30 years of working in the mining/exploration industry. Safety is very important to me.

Hi, are you trying to get your job back or are you wondering about termination pay?

Customer
Termination pay would be preferable. Returning to work there is not considered due to safety concerns.

I'm a Canadian lawyer.  How long did you work for this employer?
img

ARLENEP41, Expert

Unless you have a limitation in your Employment Agreement.  Termination/severance is normally one month for every year that you worked to a maximum of 24 months.  That amount varies on things like age and length of employment to name a few.

If you have any follow up questions please advise.

Customer
I worked there a very short period. It's not the money, it's more to do with how and why i was let go. Very deceitful in the manner in which i was let go. And to prevent further personnel on site from fatal accidents. As the one fatal accident that occurred there Jan 17 2022.

Ok, you can file a claim https://wscc.nt.ca/claim-services/claims-workers regarding occupational health and safety.
Customer
I had planned on doing that. I was just wondering what my legal options were. Thank you very much. Hagd
