Hi and thank you for using JustAnswer. My name is ***** ***** I will be assisting you with your question.
I am licensed Canadian lawyer, and this conversation is for informational purposes only. I kindly ask for your patience as some questions take longer to answer and I may have to do legal research. I may be away from my desk from time to time, but rest assured I will always return back as soon as possible. If at any point during our conversation you don’t understand something, please let me know so I can clarify.

Good afternoon – sorry to hear of the situation. These scams/thefts are extremely difficult to address given that crypto currencies are normally untraceable by the nature of their design. In many cases the crypto currencies and the fiat money used to buy them are moved to jurisdictions where there are no extradition treaties or legal method of recovering it.
You took the correct step of filing a police report. You can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-***-***-**** to report this incident.
If you are able to identify the fraudsters involved, you can file a legal claim against them for your money back assuming they are in a country with a strong rule of law. This assumes that you can identify them and they have assets in their name that your lawyer can go after once you obtain a court judgment. Here is a link for the Ontario lawyer referral service to help you find a lawyer once you are ready to take legal action against them: https://lsrs.lso.ca/lsrs/welcome
Does that help answer your question or did you have any additional questions about this issue?

Do they have information pertaining to where/who you sent your money to?
Joey, Expert
Do you know what country they operate out of?
Joey, Expert
If they are Ontario and they have assets here, then your lawyer can sue them here and go after them.

You can use the lawyer referral service link I sent you and they can assist with that.
