Customer: Hi, i have a bit of a complicated situation (i guess). I applied for express entry in B.C., I am now in Toronto, living at a friends place. I am a german citizen, worked for over 4 years as a freelance photographer and journalist (most likely in this field you just get a contract for a short time. That's how the system works now for many). I also worked for years in accounting for my dad's little business, but without certificates/training. I know from a friend who also was a freelance photographer in France that he was able to get his PR but he has a master degree which i don't atm. Would it help to get letters from my clients to prove that I worke in my field as a photographer? This is how my friend did it.
JA: Have you talked to a French lawyer about this?
Customer: no
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: Applied for express entry, IELTS test 8, WES documents, just the Resume is not done yet as I don't know how to make sure that my work experience counts. I am also looking for universities in Canada to get a Master degree, atm university of the people UoP but not sure if that is something the governement accepts.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: I am willing to immigrate to almost any province. Other than that I can't think of anything.

Debra, Expert

Hello and Welcome to JustAnswer. My name is***** will be working on your question today and I am looking forward to our conversation.
Customer
Thank you Debra! Please let me know if you need any additional information. It is quiet overwhelming for me atm so I hope everything I provided was clear and organzied enough for you to understand.
Customer
Oh, i have a bachelor degree in Media management & journalism, is this might be important. I am 38 years old, female, worked in canada for more than a year but no Management position etc. I might be able to get a job offer for next year in BC in a Manager position (Media and cultural manager for a small plac in Tofino). That's all I can think of

I know your question is important to you and I will be giving it the time and attention it deserves.

Sometimes responses and replies take time, so I ask you to be courteous and patient to allow me the time to type answers to you and also to others. At times I may even have to do some research.

I am sorry to hear of this difficult situation.

Did you receive an invitation yet or is that what you're waiting for?

Customer
Of course, pls take your time. Didn't meant to put pressure on you. I haven't received an invotation yet as i haven't finished the Express Entry process (resume is the last thing i need to finish). I am workng on getting a french language test done in around 2 months and applying for jobs (LMIA) in the meantime.

Here is the answer to your query. Please do not hesitate to ask any follow up questions related to this response and know that I will respond as soon as I can.

What would be best, ***** ***** honestly, would be if you could do a masters in Canada. This would allow you to get a post graduate work permit afterwards and you then would be able to apply through Canadian experience class.

But  certainly getting a job offer with an LMIA is best for the express entry process now.

If you have to prove your experience sure those letters will help but you don't need them quite yet.

Do you see what I mean?

Customer
I understand. Can you recommend any university that I should apply to for a masters in management etc (online and "cheap"). You might have heard from other applicants. And does this mean that my freelance work is not such a problem as i think it is?
Customer
the letters, do they have to come from companies? I worked a bit for my old university, often at weddings etc.
Customer
Debra, thank you! I might need to book you for a phonecall soon as well just to make sure that I do anything posible to get positive results but need to sort my questions first.
Customer
One more question if i may. Would a PNP in my situation be an option in your opinion?

Debra, Expert

I suggest that you retain an immigration lawyer in the province you are most interested in. The provincial nominee programs change constantly and especially change now because of Covid. I don't think you should do an online and cheap Masters program at all. I think that you should do a regular masters program so that you actually have a degree that can help you in Canada as well as for immigration purposes.

Customer
Understood. Last question: to prove my work experience do the letters all have to come from companies/institutions as I worked for companies and private people?

Debra, Expert

You would do your best to provide letters from everyone that you can.

Customer
Thank you Debra, have a great day and happy holidays.

Is there anything more I can help you with before I mark this question as complete?

Customer
pls. I realized that my point are very low, 392. The last lowest draws since August have been 468 or something like that. What can I do to improve my score and have a real chance to get invited in the pool? Taking a french test will just add a handfull of points and not doing a lot but cost a lot.

Debra, Expert

The masters would help and getting a job offer with an LMIA would also help.

Customer
Does the job offer have to have a manager title? Or could i work as a photographer, journalist, in Marketing? Something like that?
And would you recommend to apply for PNP? In BC where I'd like to move back to it costs a lot and i don't know if this makes sense at all.
img

Debra, Expert

I believe you should have a managerial title.

It costs a lot everywhere.

Customer
Thank you Debra, I have no further questions. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family and loved ones and stay safe.
