Customer: I am in a very weird situation. I had applied for Permanent Residency through Express entry and was invited on to apply for PR in August 2020. I stay in Canada with my elder daughter and my wife and younger daughter stay in India. All processes are completed and approved and they had asked for Re-medicals for my outland wife and younger daughter. My wife is refusing to do medicals again, because she believes once I get my PR, I will be sponsoring my ex-wife to come to Canada. I am trying to convince her that is not going to happen and also its legally not possible while married to my wife. Can someone pitch in and please explain why it can't be done so she can reassured? Thank you.

I am sorry to hear of this difficult situation.

So you wife is now inside of Canada?

Customer
No, she is in india
Customer
My question simply would be this: is it possible to sponsor my ex-wife while I am currently married to someone else?

Here is the answer to your query. Please do not hesitate to ask any follow up questions related to this response and know that I will respond as soon as I can.

No definitely. But even if you were not married you still cannot sponsor an ex -spouse. You would have to marry her again first.

But you can tell your current wife she doesn't have to have the exam. You simply have to remove her from your application. You will never be able to sponsor her but if that is what she wants then that is what you can decide.

Do you see what I mean?

Customer
I understand. Thank you!

Is there anything more I can help you with before I mark this question as complete?

Customer
Just a quick one, if you don't mind. My 2 yrs old daughter and my wife are in india. If I take them off the application now, will I be able to sponsor my daughter atleast later?

Debra, Expert

No. So you have to leave your daughter on. But you can take your spouse off.

Customer
Ok, got that. Thank you! :)
