Customer: I was contacted by a lawyer for a respondent in a human rights complaint I’ve filed. It goes like this:“I have been retained by Xxxxxx as legal representation for matter CS-HumanRightsCaseNo. Please send all communications related to this matter to my address and send no further mail of any kind to Xxxxxx, at any address. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask”The letter clearly stated they are representing them in one singular matter. It is also clear the client wants no more mail at their work or home.I have several non human rights matters going against this respondent. They all require mailing forms and submissions. As such I asked the lawyer in return mail whether they wished all matters sent to them, or whether those notices and mailings should still go to their client directly. They did not answer.I truly do not wish to harass their client with mailings, nor do I want to sent correspondence to their lawyer without leave. The respondent is the type to claim harassment and loss for the costs of their lawyer reading and redirecting mail. I am trying to avoid that annoyance. But mostly I am just curious, is it permissible to send letters to a lawyer for their client if it is not related to the matter they were hired for? Thanks for your help and clarity.

I know your question is important to you and I will be giving it the time and attention it deserves.

I am sorry to hear of this difficult situation.

You can do what you want. It is up to you. That lawyer doesn't want to see the letters because they don't want to charge the client for this extra work but if they don't tell you not to send them to the lawyer then you can send them to the lawyer. The client can pay the lawyer until they tell the lawyer to tell you not to send those letters.

Does that help?

Do you see what I mean?
