Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: My issue, simply, is that I purchase a new car in 2018, I paid the car off in 2020, I'm now trying to trade in my vehicle to get a new one, but, the dealer is telling me that there is a lien on the car. However, I was supposed to be the first and only owner of the car. So now, I'm being told I can't do anything until the lien is removed, and it's up to TD if they want to or not even though I went through Ford Finance to purchase it, and have a letter saying I paid it off.
JA: What province are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: British Columbia
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: I've contacted the original dealer ship and they have contacted TD, and that's where I am
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: no

Ford Finance likely went through TD, you need to speak with Ford and ask for a discharge. If it is paid in full, they do not have a right to continue to lien the property. This is likely an administrative error.
