Customer: We are two Israelis living and working in Canada. Are we allowed to drive into the USA and stay for less than a week?
JA: Have you talked to a lawyer about this?
Customer: No
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: How difficult is it at the border to cross from Canada into the USA? We are 2 Israelis working and living in Canada.
JA: The Lawyer will be able to walk you through that. Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: How much does this cost?

No, you need to get a visa to enter into the US.

Customer
Hi there, my husband has a visa and I'm Canadian. So I think we're okay on that account. I'm worried about them letting us into the US. We've heard rumors that it can be quite tricky at the border. They only let you in on essential travel. We simply want to visit family in Pittsburg. Do we have to come up with a story about a sick relative? :-)

Ah, well you will now have the problem with the covid restrictions. Non-essential travel is currently still banned until August 21. I am not sure if that will change in a few days, but if it does not, you will need to turn your essential travel into non-essential travel if you want to enter the country.

Customer
What comes under essential travel exactly?

ToLawyer, Expert

Who is considered an “essential” traveler?

Citizens and lawful permanent residents returning to the United States.

Individuals traveling for medical purposes (e.g., to receive medical treatment in the United States).

Individuals traveling to attend educational institutions.

Individuals traveling to work in the United States (e.g., individuals working in the agriculture industry who must travel between the United States and Canada or Mexico in furtherance of such work).

Individuals traveling for emergency response and public health purposes (e.g., government officials or emergency responders entering the United States to support federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial government efforts to respond to COVID-19 or other emergencies).

Individuals engaged in lawful cross-border trade (e.g., truck drivers supporting the movement of cargo between the United States and Canada and Mexico).

Individuals engaged in official government travel or diplomatic travel.

Individuals engaged in military-related travel or operations.

Okay, looks like we don't fit that bill. We'll just have to hope they open things up on Aug 21st. Thanks a lot
