Customer: Hi. I am Gurpreet and based in Dubai UAE with my wife and daughter. My wife and I received our permanent residence for Canada in 2019 and need some advise to sponsor or bring our 15-month old daughter to Canada who was born in Dubai and does not have permanent residence of Canada. What necessary actions do you advise us to take and follow in order to bring our daughter along. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
JA: Hi. Have you talked to a lawyer about this?
Customer: Not yet
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: Well nothing in particular. I tried approaching IRCC few times for an advise but the information was never clear about what we are suppose to do
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: No that's all

Canadian citizens are able to sponsor family members which include dependent children from overseas for them to get their PR while they are not living in Canada. However, permanent residents are not able to do this because of the residency restrictions placed on PR's .

Therefore, if you want to bring your daughter to Canada with you, you will have to apply for an ETA for her which is a Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online because she is a UAE passport holder as she was born in Dubai. UAE passport holders need only get a ETA and do not need a visitor visa (temporary resident visa ) to enter Canada.

Also, since your daughter is a dependent child of permanent resident parents, she should be allowed entry under the Travel restrictions.

Here is the link to the Canada Immigration webpage on how to apply for an ETA

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta/apply.html

As well, after you arrive in Canada, you can use this link to access the inland sponsorship forms you need to help her get her PR.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask follow up questions.

Hello Joanne. I sincerely ***** ***** for your guidance and advise. This is very helpful. Just a small clarification though. My daughter was born in Dubai but she is an Indian passport holder. So will the process remain the same or do we need to do anything in addition to applying for ETA. My wife and I would like to have a live phone call if possible to discuss few more queries

You are most welcome.

If your daughter is an Indian passport holder, she will need a Canadian visitor visa (TRV).

You can use this link to apply for a visitor visa
