Good afternoon – sorry to hear about the situation. Has any work been completed so far?
Joey, Expert
When was the work supposed to be completed as per your written contract?
Joey, Expert
How did you pay?

In a situation like this, it would be best to write to the reno company and highlight all the deficiencies with the work and demand that they be rectified. Also, demand a final completion date. The company should be afforded an opportunity to fix it first. If the company refuses, your next step would be to write a demand letter to the company advising them that if the work is not fixed/finished, you will have no choice but to file a civil claim against them. If the amount in dispute is under $50,000, you can file your claim in small claims court. Here is a link with more information on how to file a claim: http://www.smallclaimsbc.ca/small-claims-court-5001-35000/notice-of-claim/submit-a-claim

You should put it in writing that you want a firm date for the completion of this project. 5 months seems excessive for such a job. If he refuses, you could consider this a breach of contract and file a claim against him to refund you.

You should ascertain the cost to have it completed. Perhaps retain a third party contractor to give you an estimate.
