Good morning – can you please tell me what has happened so far and your legal question?

Customer
I have a friend who works both in Can/US in construction. Last week they were visited by FBI. From what I understand because of cousins who were doing shady things while in employ of the construction Co. The owner turned them in and they are now incarcerated. During the visit the FBI just questioned the owner. Subsequently, all bank accounts have been frozen. I'm assuming for forensic audit

Sorry to hear of this situation. Does your question pertain to Canadian or US law?

Customer
Maybe both....My friend wants me to open a bank account (in Canada where I live) to receive payments being made for previous work performed
Customer
Then I would convert to bit coin and forward to the owner

I can only speak to Canadian law. If they are being investigated in the US for various financial crimes and you assist them in moving money, you would open yourself up to criminal liability and could be extradited to the US to face charges.

Customer
My question is this legal? I work of a national law enforcement agency in Canada and cannot afford to 'embarrass the organization'
Customer
Is a forensic audit an investigation

Joey, Expert

You could be opening yourself up to criminal liability if you assist them in moving money given they are under criminal investigation. It would be ill advised to participate in this.

Customer
Thank you very much for confirming my instincts
