Customer: I was living in transitional housing. Around the 28th I was moving out of province. I had movers come get half my belongings and were to come back and get the rest. My gf was gonna help with that. And shelter staff was made aware. Then movers never came. They've ignored phone calls. Dont wanna give me an answer about my stuff being picked up. So they screwed me and now have to call police. Shelter staff even put in a complaint on them. Ow had approved 1000$ for my move. I tried calling another company. They said they'd help. Spoke to him myself and shelter also. Then on Monday because shelter staff informed ow I was not moving my stuff out of province I now was only eligible for 250$ which my estimate was 850 for that mover. And I cant afford that. They told me that on Monday. I arranged for a different mover to come today at noon and texted my shelter worker to tell her and she answers me saying my stuff is gone. They threw it all in a dumpster. Didnt tell me. I was so upset by this as im already going through many tough times out here for them to do that to me is messed up. So I found a man with a truck on kijiii to go try to save any of my stuff in the dumpster thats been rained 9 on for 2 day. Paid him 400$. Alot of my stuff is missing. And the manager came out and said to my friend that she can take whats on the truck. But whatever not on the truck is going back in the bin. They sent all my daughter toys to goodwill. Ive been in constant contact with them to try and arrange my stuff to be removed. And now I've been left with all my stuff damaged. Given away. Stolen. Or being held and told i can't have it. So whats my rights. Cause thats not right
JA: What state is the property located in? And has anyone consulted a local attorney about this?
Customer: Ontario This just happened now
JA: What are the terms of the lease? Any issues related to maintenance or upkeep?
Customer: But it was all packed and disassembled waiting for movers. My worker was the one dealing with ow about the move for me. Even spoke to movers. So they know I didnt just abandon my stuff.
JA: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: The lease actually sais at one point...

Please note that the experts don’t text so there may be a bit of a delay. If you don’t answer back for a while I may not be online when you do but I will never desert you and will check back often. As well, as I am working from home it is possible that I will be interrupted but I will always return back as soon as I can.

I am sorry to hear of this difficult situation.

What you can do is send them a letter. In the letter set out the facts and demand that they provide you with compensation for the costs you will incur in replacing the goods by a deadline that you set.

Tell them if they to comply you will commence legal proceedings and then will be seeking interest and your costs.

You can then sue them in Small Claims Court and self-represent. If it gets that far and you find you need some help as you go through the process you can always post on this site again and I can assist you further.

Does that help as a starting point?

This is only for debra. So what you are saying is that what they did was illegal? Like by law did they have to wait a certain amount of time before they could just throw my stuff away and give it away? Like 30 days or anything like that? I know transitional housing has some laws that may be a bit different from regular houses. And the pic i attached is the only portion that talks about belongings. I sure didnt abandon them cause we kept in contact about my stuff up until the night before they had the dumpster delivered. Then didnt even tell me they did it. But the friday before my worker was emailing my welfare worker about still having my move covered and i found out from a buisness that takes donations that they had called him to offer him my things and he arranged to go look at it. On friday. He admitted to taking my daughters 200$ wagon. Said the girl.under me was helping herself to my things. And the whole time they didnt say anything and continued to try to help me get movers paid to have my stuff removed. Cause the bin came tuesday after that. They refuse to tell me where my stuff that wasnt thrown in the dumpster was donated. So know im left with litterally nothing. What was in the dumpster is all ruined. I had nothing going into shelter. My ex ruined everything i worked my whole life for and said to them they just did the same thing to me as he did. I said to them they have now become my abuser and are no better than him. Like all my daughters stuff. Even her bed. Her new bike. Her toys. Gone. Shes 2. How did they feel doing that. I guess i ultimately wanna just know for sure that what they did was illegal. Regardless of what it sais in the lease there. Thanks again.Lease
