I am sorry to hear of this difficult situation.

Are there private schools in the area that you could send him to and he could attend remotely?

I am NOT asking if you can afford to send your child there. I am just asking if they exist.

Customer

You are not obligated to send your child to school given the current COVID-19 pandemic. However, I do believe you need to elect whether you want to send him or proceed with online classes. Your child is needed to either attend in person or attend online classes. I recommend that you speak with your local school board.

Customer
I spoke with the school board in Montreal and they are not providing online studies. They are forcing me to send my kid to school. What can i do in this situation.

Debra, Expert

If there are no online studies then unfortunately your kid must go in person. It is mandatory to attend Elementary and High School in Canada.

Customer
We don't want to risk my son's and my families life. If I don't send him to school will there be any legal action taken against us ?

Debra, Expert

You may be able to home school your child for the remaining of the year. I recommend you speak to the school board for such option. I appreciate that school boards may not have answers to everything as they are trying to deal with this pandemic.

previously the government would have been able to fine you if you did not send you children to school. However, it is not clear whether they are doing so given the current pandemic.

Customer
If i admit my child to private online classes so will we face any legal issues
img

Debra, Expert

You should not face any fines if you send your child to private online classes

Customer
N do i need to inform his school that we are taking private online clases and what if they cancel his admission n will he able to get admission in future after pandemic over
img

Debra, Expert

I believe you do need to inform the school board. Your child should be able to return to public school when you wish to (as long as there is still space).

Customer
Need some clarity regarding home schooling can we teach our child in home using laptop and all or we have to get him enrol somewhere?
img

Debra, Expert

I am not sure about home schooling. You will need to reach out to the school board for those answers as you will need to teach according to the curriculum.

Customer
Ok
