I am sorry to hear this.

Please start at the beginning and let me know what happened.

Thanks

Customer
Thank you. I received a voice mail message from my physician receptionist she told me that Dr told her to tell me that I have to be treated for an STD (I still have the audio). I called the receptionist and then she repeated the same thing that I have to be treated by Doctor's Assistant since the actual doctor was away. I was offended that the receptionist knows about my personal life. I contacted the Privacy Act and they advised me to file a complaint since it was considered a violation
Of Privacy. I did that and they assigned someone to my case but to my surprise
This person had already contacted Dr K about it and had concluded that I was on the wrong and the Doc was on the right. He didn't ask for my evidence up until I said I will take it further.

So are you saying that the breach of privacy was that a receptionist was told your private medical information?

Is this receptionist also a nurse?

And what did the staff member at the privacy commissioner tell you?

Customer
The receptionist is not a nurse. The Doc has a nurse in the office but he assigned his receptionist. And the receptionist left that voice mail message stating that I have an STD and have to be treated. What if my phone was stolen or someone listened to my voice mail? The privacy act member justifies Dr K. But he said he will look at the evidence but there's nothing he can do about it

I am horrified to be honest.

First, of course a non-medical staff member should not know about your medical information but to leave that message. That's just appalling.

I think you should file a complaint with the college:

http://www.cpsa.ca/public/

This is misconduct and goes beyond a privacy issue.

Does that help?

Please feel free to post back with any follow-up questions you may have. If you don't have any then I hope I have earned a 5 star rating but if you don't feel that I have please don't hesitate to reply back and let me know what more I can do to assist you.
