Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: I'm in Ontario, Canada and I am a commercial tenant who has a sub lease under my original lease. Do I have to provide my utility bills to my sub tenant? In the past I have provided just the amounts owed.
JA: Because laws vary from place to place, can you tell me what state the property is in?
Customer: Ontario Canada
JA: What are the terms of the lease? Any issues related to maintenance or upkeep?
Customer: no no issues. The lease states that they pay their proportionate share
JA: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: nope!

Counsel Creed, Expert

Hi, welcome to Just Answer and thank yo for using our services. I am Counsel Creed. You DO NOT need to provide your utility bills to your tenant, UNLESS it was specifically asked for in the lease agreement. It is a good idea to always keep them, in case, god forbid there is a dispute between the two of you later on. Having said that, you still MAY give them a copy if it will help the two of you develop a better business relationship.

Customer
The relationship is strained. They are refusing to pay without scanned copies of my bills. I have sent photos of the relevant parts of the bills, as well as an invoice and emails.

Again, I think that is a good, transparent practice, but you DO NOT have to do that.

If you have no further questions for now, will you kindly rate me, since that is the only way that I will get paid? You can do that by clicking on the stars symbol in the top right-hand corner of your screen. I know that it was a quick consult, but I sincerely ***** ***** I have earned five stars in your estimate. It goes without saying that I remain open to any questions that you may have in the future, at no extra cost to you, of course. Thank you.
