Is it legal for Northwood Care to prevent healthy residents from leaving the property? We have been virus free for over

Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: Is it legal for Northwood Care to prevent healthy residents from leaving the property? We have been virus free for over 28 days.
JA: What state are the residents in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: Nova Scotia, Canada
JA: What steps have the residents taken so far?
Customer: None. We are just told that we can only leave our floors with an escort and can not go off the property.
JA: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: I can’t think of any.

I am sorry to hear this.

If you leave will they tell you that you can no longer live there?

Customer
I haven't been told that personally but I've been told that you're not allowed back in.

Your being virus free isn't really the issue. The issue is they don't want you bringing covid back into the home.

So they aren't see you as being a risk to someone you will encounter. They see you being the one at risk for being harmed.

I don't see the Ministry in charge of long term care facilities seeing that this is wrong during this pandemic.

Do you see what I mean?

You aren't prisoners but you can be told if you take risks they don't want you to be exposed to the rest of the residents.

Does that make sense?

Please feel free to post back with any follow-up questions you may have. If you don't have any then I hope I have earned a 5 star rating but if you don't feel that I have please don't hesitate to reply back and let me know what more I can do to assist you. Finally, please know that even after you rate me I will be here for you and you can ask follow-up questions if you think of them later on at no further charge of course.

What you have said is the same reasoning they used, but they said that after 28 days of no active cases things would return to normal. 28 days of no active cases has passed but they haven't returned things to normal. I have asked the person who looks after me as far as social services go about this and she hasn't been able to find out the answer. Are they allowed to just continue with the old rules indefinitely?
