Hi

Customer
I am a Canadian citizen, my partner is a US citizen but applied for Permanent Residence in Canada as my common-law partner
Customer
he received notification November 20th that his application was approved and that he would receive his PR card in the next few weeks
Customer
we were planning to visit family in the US next week for the holidays
Customer
we spoke to an immigration services person who told us we only needed the notification of approval at the border
Customer
but were told differently today, that we needed the PR card itself in order to get back into Canada
Customer
he applied from within Canada
Customer
I'm trying to figure out which is correct

An U.S.A. citizen doesn't need a visa to get into Canada.  He just needs his passport and vaccination status

Customer
but if he resides in Canada? his address is here
img

ARLENEP41, Expert

Right, so he can explain that he lives in Canada and his PR card is pending.  Bring any documentation you have showing that the PR card is pending.  They know things are backed up.

Customer
ok! I just wanted to make sure that we weren't going to get stuck in the US, as his visa expired but we were told that was ok since the PR was approved

No, you won't get stuck
