I am sorry to see that a US lawyer first replied. This cause you the delay.

I am happy to step in as I am in Canada.

I am really sorry to hear that your grandpa is so sick. That must be terribly hard for your dad and you.

Your grandpa's ex will share equally in the value of all assets acquired during the 25 years aside from gifts and inheritances. And she will share equally in the increase in value of any asset brought into the relationship.

She won't be able to sue for money that was spent. That is not how the law works.

Does that help?

Please feel free to post back with any follow-up questions you may have. If you don't have any then I hope I have earned a 5 star rating but if you don't feel that I have please don't hesitate to reply back and let me know what more I can do to assist you. Finally, please know that even after you rate me I will be here for you and you can ask follow-up questions if you think of them later on at no further charge of course.

She could get his survivor benefits from CPP as he didn't get a new spouse.
