Customer: Hi I was about to pay my subscription of $5.00 and lost the page. My name is ***** ***** I was talking to you 10 min ago
JA: What state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: I'm currently in Cooma NSW, I was employed here but flying home to Qld tomorrow
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: I've gone thru my issue with my employer, given information about what's happened. And that my employment was terminated today. Then you said an employment lawyer will help me, and to pay the $5 cover fee for a trial week. I was putting my card details in to pay and lost the page.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: Not at the moment. Just questions he will ask me I will answer.

John Melis, Expert

Hello, I’m John Melis, a solicitor in Australia, and I’ll be helping you with your question today.

Can you tell me why your employer dismissed you?
Customer
Apparently due to a covid issue, but the HR lady said I should get a centerlink payment , and she will contact me when the issue is resolved. I think it's an excuse and I've been made redundant after only a week and a half's work. I signed a contract. I was moved from being a lab tech for pulling a muscle in my buttocks, put on lite duties, then I was asked if I could cook n clean for the employee accommodation, I started that 4 days ago, then yesterday told not to go there due to a covid issue, I had a government covid test yesterday morning, received my text message saying negative, sent that to the HR lady, then today the HR lady told me she had booked my flight back to Qld. I asked if I had lost my job, she said well no, I will call when the issue is dealt with, I asked if I was just going on leave 4 days early and if I'd still be getting my flat rate of pay on leave, she said no your last pay is tomorrow, Monday, I said so I don't have a job, she said I'll call you when the covid issue is dealt with, I said I just let my government payment go cause I had a full time job guaranteed. She said you will have to apply for it again. It does not add up, if I was getting a call to come back when the issue has been resolved, why did she say to apply for a centerlink payment. I'm so gutted. I signed a contract, she assured me I had a full time job. Then does this today.
