Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: I have a one room artists studio in a property in the CBD.During the months of the lockdown I was unable to go into my studio, as it was outside the 5K. limit from my home. Now the electricity company are claiming that I owe over $400.00 for my electricity bill, despite the fact that I was not there and didn't use any electricity. This seems utterly unfair. Do they have a case? Anselm van Rood
JA: What state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.

JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: I have written to the electricity co.- Powershop- to dispute their claim.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.

As your name is ***** ***** any documentation, then technically you are not in a lease of the premises. Therefore the landlord who owns the premises were there a studio room or a large area is responsible for any rent payments all that electricity.
Customer
I see. But I have regularly paid for the electricity for the past ten years.
Customer
my name is ***** ***** bills.

Has your name is ***** ***** bills with the utility companies, you'll then be liable for the charges.Have I answered your question? If any part of my response is unclear, please let me know. It’s my goal to deliver excellent service, so please let me know if there is anything more I can do. Thank you for using our site.
Customer
Thank you but I dont think you have answered my question: am I liable for the electricity bill when I was not on the premises and didnt use any electricity?

If your name is ***** ***** invoice of the utility company, and you have been using the premises, and even where there was lockdown, and you had items stored in that room of your personal items or tools of trade that you need, then you will be liable for the electricity cost.Does this help with your question today?
Customer
it does but it still seems completely unfair!
