Hello, I’m John Melis, a solicitor in Australia, and I’ll be helping you with your question today.

Tell me more about your issue with your overseas holiday travel insurance?

Customer
I paid for holiday and flights (pre covid) for trip in May 2020. Because of gov restrictions dates were changed to Oct 2020, then changed again to Oct 2021. At this time, it does not look like international travel will be possible at this time. I took out travel insurance at the time I booked and paid for holiday and flights. Am I still covered by this insurance policy?

Your cover will be subject to the terms and conditions of your policy. Your travel insurance should cover you were the terms and conditions remain valid as a result of the government closure. What I suggest you do with this particular point in time is have a review of your terms and conditions of your insurance policy. If you insurance company refuses to pay under that policy you can raise a claim against the insurance company in the tribunal, VCAT.The Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal “VCAT” is perfect for meditating disputes. The tribunal helps parties resolve the issues in question. The mediation will resolve the matter in most cases. You access the application form under the forms tab of the tribunal website. The following link will assist you further:www.vcat.vic.gov.auThe tribunal has help menus. The help menus will assist you in filling out the application. The tribunal will send you an email after applying. That email will explain the next steps.Have I answered your question? If any part of my response is unclear, please let me know. It’s my goal to deliver excellent service, so please let me know if there is anything more I can do. Thank you for using our site.
