Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: I'm having an ongoing dispute with Telstra who were directed to close my account on Dec 12 last year and transfer my mobile number to Optus. The number has been transferred and I've been using Optus for 3 months. Telstra insists that the account has not been closed and they keep sending me bills.
JA: What state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: NSW
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: I have has several phone calls with their assistants who don't believe a request to close the account was ever sent. I've tried to reply by email to their bills but this gets rejected or I'm told that their division doesn't have that authority. I tried to phone them again this morning but was told there was at least a 45 minute wait. Their is nowhere else I can send a complaint or discuss the problem.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: My phone bills from them have no calls listed because all of my calls are listed on my Optus bill. I've tried explain this to them but it just does not sink in.

I didn't get to speak to a lawyer yet as I accidentally shut down my computer screen. Can I still speak to one?

John Melis, Expert

Hello, and welcome! I’m John Melis, a solicitor in Australia.

I suggest you issue written correspondence to the company explaining the problem and request a response within 72 hours.

Once a company receives a written response, it will act quickly.

Many people around Australia are having the same issue.

You can issue the complaint on the company's website. You may also send correspondence by Express Post to the head office.

If no reply is received, then commence proceedings in the local tribunal.

You can sue for compensation.

You do not need a lawyer to apply with the tribunal, and you can run the case yourself.

I can hear your concern and your voice, and if you follow the steps I’ve suggested above, it will give you a direction to go.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

The problem is John I can find no address on their correspondence or website to send an email. Every time I respond to any of their emails it bounces back. There is simply nowhere to send a complaint other than waiting for 30 to talk them which I've done several times but got nowhere.
