Expert's Assistant chat
Customer: Hi Pearl, I am Australian currently residing in Canada. My boyfriend and I were looking at relocating back to Australia in September. Before COVID-19 we were going to get him a working holiday visa (he is under 35) and apply for a spousal PR when we get to Aus and the bridging visa so he can work under the same conditions of the working holiday visa while the PR application is processed. Is this still a possibility for us or we will have to wait until border restrictions are lifted?
JA: What steps have you taken? Have you filed any paperwork with the government?
Customer: No, I'm not sure it was worth it with the current situation until I was sure we were able to proceed as planned
JA: Have you talked to a lawyer about the visa?
Customer: No that's why I'm here
JA: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: No thank you very much

They say international travel wont start till next year

You can return but the bf may not be granted entry

Have you applied for the Partner visa

Customer
Thanks Leon, no we hadn't applied. It takes 12 - 18 months to process so we thought we might as well wait until next year if that was the case
Customer
We were wanting to get the Working holiday visa first so he can at least work while the application was processed

Leon, Expert

If you want to come to Australia and apply you will have to wait until they process and grant the working holiday visa.

Has he applied for that?

Customer
I didn’t think they would accept any new applications for the working holiday visas given the current situation?

Leon, Expert

They are accepting them but they are not processing them quickly.

Even holiday visas are an issue and the borders are closed

Customer
No worries we can consider that. Thank you for your time.
